Killington Lane Bridge Revealed

Killington Lane Bridge was revealed to the public for the first time on 29 October 2011 - in model form at least.

L&B Member Tony Peart exhibited his model at Expo-NG, a model railway exhibition dedicated to narrow gauge, organised annually by the Greenwich and District Narrow Gauge Railway Society.

The 009 scale model ("00" scale, 4mm to 1 foot, using 9mm gauge track) depicts Killington Lane after the bridge is built, rails laid, and opened to traffic, but before the line to Parracombe and Blackmoor is completely open, and before Killington Lane Halt is removed, and the land returned to agricultural use.

... while Axe waits with an empty wagon, SR no. 28320. See HERE for an image of the real one!)

The bridge is modelled following the already completed design, recently produced by Atkins for the L&BR Trust

Tony has assumed that during construction, the road would have been diverted onto the triangle of land already owned by the Trust. the remains of this diversion are here used for short-term parking.

How long before we will be able to witness this at 1:1 scale?

The bridge construction is of concrete, faced in natural local stone.

Although based in the "near future", Tony's model is NOT a fantasy. Some modellers' license has been used, but it is a realistic depiction of what CAN be achieved in just a few years from now.

As you can see, much of the planning and design has already been completed. It just needs funding to see it happen.  "All Aboard!" is an initiative to raise sufficient funding to obtain a TWAO and the necessary stautory powers to allow the L&B to run under Killington Lane and on to Blackmoor, and bring Tony's model to life in the real world.  Please consider joining  "All Aboard!" and helping to make sure it DOES happen!
