Heritage Carriage Update: August 2012

STOP PRESS Saturday 25th August

Spent today (Saturday) at Yeldham, just Tony Ely and I.  Made further progess on Coach 7, all external panelling fixed and steps (a set of 3 at each end) attached. Before completing the panelling we installed conduit and trunking for the electric lighting

Next week we plan to lay the canvas on the roofs of both carriages as it is recommended that the canvas lays for two  weeks to allow creases to fall out. After that we start installing the Emergency pull cord in Coach  7.  Plenty of painting available for Bryan!

HERITAGE COACHES - Interim report 22nd August 2012

It's well over 3 months since my last update so please accept my apologies!  Life is currently very busy so this is just an Interim Report to whet the appetite. In the next week or so I hope to complete a full report with many more photo's

Considerable progress has been made on both coaches. Coach 17 now has a roof and a great deal of work has taken place on fitting out the 1st Class compartments. 3rd Class in both coaches have received attention with hat rack slats machined and seat slats prepared for No.17.  Coach 7 has had some changes made to it's roof!  More on this in the next report.

This week we received roof canvas for not only 7 and 17 but also enough for a third coach. Internal painting has commenced on Coach 7. Primed aluminium panels have been fixed to the sides of No. 7 but the primer (a sort of Southern Green) supplied by our paint contractor turned out to be inappropriate so this had to be stripped off. New metal etching primer has been supplied instead and this was spray painted yesterday by our good friend Alan - thanks mate.

Earlier this month Barry Marshall and Richard Bullock of the Surrey Group came up for 4 consecutive days and gave invaluable help in cleaning and preparing both coaches for painting. Our thanks to not only to them, but also to all those individuals across the country for the financial support they are giving to the Heritage Coaches Project.  Keep it coming!
