Gala Record Success

The Lynton & Barnstaple Railway's Autumn Gala over this weekend was an astounding success. Over the two days the railway carried well over a thousand passengers between Woody Bay Station and Killington Lane.
The event was opened on the Saturday by Andrew Scott , Head of the National Railway Museum, York. Trains were hauled by Hunslets "Statfold" and "Jack Lane", as well as resident Maffei locomotive "Sid". The railway had visits from a fine selection of steam and vintage road vehicles that entertained visitors at Woody Bay Station.
In the beer tent the railway was brought to life by the sounds of North Devon artists including Chris Millington, Douglas E Powell, Malachite, Ruth & Samuel Chapple, Blue Zoots and the Heddon Stumblers. Further entertainment was provided on Sunday by Exmoor Border Morris.
Smashing all previous records on passenger numbers and takings, without a doubt this weekend has been the most successful the railway has seen since it opened and continues to build on previous successes of staging events at the fringes of and outside the main season.
We wish to thank everyone who supported the gala over the weekend, particularly the many who have provided free attractions, or assisted as volunteers in operating the railway, without whom we would not be able to have such a a fantastic event and atmosphere!
The railway is always pleased to welcome new volunteers, particularly to assist with the array of tasks on offer from catering and retail to train driving and engineering.
