Britomart and Lilla stand at Woody Bay Station 25-9-12 - Judy Williams
Britomart and
Lilla are visiting Woody Bay as part of "F&WHR On Tour 2012". Earlier in the year,
Lilla was in operation on a demonstration line at the National Railway Museum in York, and last weekend both locos were at the Birkenhead Transport Festival.
Britomart is an 0-4-0ST quarry engine built by the Hunslet Engine Company, Leeds in 1899 (works No. 707) for Pen-yr-Orsedd Quarry, in the Nantlle Vale. Bought privately in 1965 by a consortium of FR volunteers, this well-travelled engine visited Dublin in 1974, the Leighton Buzzard Railway in 1986, the Welsh Highland Heritage Railway in 1990, the Welsh Highland Railway in 2007, Hollycombe and Tyseley in 2010, Statfold Barn Railway and Dinas in 2011.
Lilla visited us for last year's Autumn Gala and was enjoyed by all. It is intended that she remain in Devon for a while after the Gala. To read more about

Many thanks to our friends from Wales for arranging the visit of these two delightful engines at short notice, due to the unforeseen problems with
Palmerston.
Please do come and meet with the F&WHR staff who will be at Woody Bay for the duration of the Gala.
