This report plus photos from Chris Duffell
Chelfham Viaduct was visited 5th August 2021 by the Civil Engineering Rope Access Team from Peninsular Access.
The team of Rob, Alex and Mandy were carrying out the 6 year inspection of the structure to check that it it is still in good condition and to then report on any potential defects or problems.
They were carrying out the work on behalf of Balfour Beatty and the owners of the viaduct, Highways England Residuary Railway Estate. Any defects noted will be fed back to Highways England who will then arrange the necessary repairs.
Chris also took some photos of the old Mill School - currently unoccupied.
As well as inspecting the Viaduct the team have removed and treated the Ivy that was growing up the pier at the Barnstaple end. The viaduct view from the Bratton Fleming road is once more as it should be free of all vegetation.
And finally: the van! Peninsula Access are a local company based in Moretonhampstead.
