Chelfham the continuing story

This report from Nigel Thompson

1. On Sunday 25th the 'Up' Starting Signal post was installed. The wooden post and ladder support were carefully secured prior to later fittings of the finial and signal arm and counterbalance mechanisms.

2. Chelfham in evening sunlight.

3. The skip was removed to reveal the splendid view from the siding.

4. The station building viewed from the 'Down' platform.

5. Side on views, with the signal cabin doors open and lever 1 ('Up' Starting Signal) pulled off.

Chelfham Station once again is open to visitors on Wednesdays and Sundays.

Admission is free, but donations are always welcome. A small secondhand bookshop is usually open when our volunteers are working on site. But the site is not only a railway (in the making), there are both trackbed and woodland walks. All the walks are very well signposted.

At this time of the year, the woodland walks are popular with all the bluebells in bloom.

Free parking is available at the station, but this is limited to just a few car spaces. Additional parking is however available along the roadside of the public lane that provides some additional parking along the lane beneath the viaduct.

Visitors traveling to Chelfham Station by car should follow their Satnavs to postcode EX31 4RP.
