GALA IN THE NEWS

Among the many visitors to Woody Bay over the weekend were local journalists from the North Devon Journal. See their online report HERE and look out for Thursday's printed edition!

Two photos of PRINCE provided by Tony Nicholson

1. PRINCE at 9 o'clock Wednesday 25 September after arriving at Woody Bay late the previous night.

2. Later in the afternoon alongside AXE, PRINCE receives attention from very long-time L&B member Murray Dods enjoying a weeks holiday away from the Fairbourne Railway.

L&B member Martin Manfield recorded PRINCE's first visit to the platform at Woody Bay:

Why no ISAAC this weekend
During running-in trials at Boston Lodge, ISAAC (intended to be the L&Bs latest resident locomotive), suffered valve-gear failure and unfortunately, cannot be repaired in time for the next weeks gala.

The good news, however, is that, through the generosity and support of our friends at the Ffestiniog / Welsh Highland Railways, ‘PRINCE’ is to visit for the Gala.  Prince is due to arrive on Tuesday 24th September and commence crew training and running-in ready to be in service for the Gala Weekend.

Extending PRINCE's 150th Anniversary tour - the the worlds oldest operating narrow gauge steam engine will be the first to haul the worlds newest narrow gauge carriage at Woody Bay Station.

This gala will be a great opportunity to see and enjoy this loco in action in North Devon - PRINCE has never been this far south before and is the first tender engine to ever operate on the L&B.

PRINCE is a 0-4-0STT built in 1863 by George England and the oldest-surviving Ffestiniog Railway steam locomotive and returned to service in time for the 150th anniversary of steam on the FR earlier this year.
