Annual Autumn Steam Gala 2007 - Don't Miss It!

The railway's Autumn Gala at Woody Bay next weekend (Saturday 29 and Sunday 30 September 2007) will be officially opened on the Saturday by Andrew Scott, the Head of the National Railway Museum.

The gala will be in full swing from 1000 - 1800 on Saturday and Sunday. Locos at the gala this year will be "Statfold" built by Hunslet in 2005, and "Sid" constructed by Maffei of Munich in 1925.
 

 
We have today learned that a third railway locomotive 'Jack Lane' will be at Woody Bay as part of this weekend's event. Owned by the Hunslet Engine Company, the engine is travelling all the way from their base at Tamworth in the Midlands and has never visited the Westcountry before.
 
 
This means there will be three steam engines operating trains! Other attractions include a selection of working steam road engines, vintage bus rides, model steam, face painting, traders, food stalls & beer tent.
 

 
There will be live music over the weekend from Chris Millington, Malachite, Samuel & Ruth, Heddon Stumblers, Douglas E Powell, and Blue Zoots. Sunday will also see a visit from Exmoor Border Morris Dancers.
 

 
There is a £1 hourly shuttle bus both days available from Lynton Town Hall to Woody Bay Station starting from 10am operated by Webbers Travel.  Visitors arriving by car will need to park at the Killington Lane end of the railway, from where the train or vintage bus can be used to travel to Woody Bay Station.
 
The station is also served by the 300, 309 and 310 bus routes.
 
The event will make a fantastic day out for any steam fans, and a fabulous day of fun for all the family!
