The other week some of the Wednesday Gang were tasked to go to Rowley Cross to undertake one of our regular responsibilities, cutting the grass and tidying the picnic site, leaving it suitable for public use.
The land adjacent to the lay-by off the A39 highway near to Rowley Cross comprising a section of railway trackbed to the north-east from Bridge 58 (Blacklead Cattle Creep) together with the adjoining area were procured from Devon County Council in 2012. In return, we accepted responsibility to keep the area clean and tidy for the enjoyment of residents and tourists in North Devon. Whilst this activity is a regular feature of our workload, we have already created a history of helping and assisting other neighbours wherever we can. So far, we have used our manpower and mechanical resources by assisting neighbours with vegetation clearance, provision of and repairs to fencing, agreed and approved felling of diseased and dangerous trees, and resolving drainage problems.
