Work in Progress: 16th August

This report from Thursday Gang regular Dave Bloomfield

The weather at Woody Bay today was expected to be showery and it didn't disappoint. Heavy showers interrupted work throughout the day. Luckily the shed was close to hand as we were continuing the relaying of the track at the rear of the engine shed started the week before. Although it doesn't look it, a lot of work was accomplished today.  During the week Martyn Budd, using the L&B's excavator, had levelled the track-bed ready for the sleepers.

Our first job was a quick trip up to Bridge 67 to collect 30 sleepers and hurry back - as the first train was due to depart early from Woody Bay with passengers from the first of two Shearings Coaches due today.

1. The first train of the day with Axe getting ready to depart with the Shearings passengers.

2. The first rail being re-laid and bolted.

3. The first lengths laid.

4. The second sections being unloaded.

5. All three sections of track laid and pinned.

6. A view down the newly laid track from the top of the cutting.

7. Axe on the newly laid track for the first time.

8. Axe - the closest to Lynton she has been - so far!.

9. Martyn making sure all is well.
