Work in Progress: 2nd February

Very cold today up on Exmoor - bright and sunny too and all the volunteers were pleased to start the day with some hand shovelling of chippings on the car park just to warm themselves up!

 
1. Earlier in the week the contractors had resurfaced all the car park areas with crushed and rolled stone after the recent flood and washouts. The final task was for the volunteers to hand spread a coat of chippings around the goods yard/disabled parking areas.



2. As part of this repairs and upgrade, opportunity was taken for the contractors whilst on site to tarmac the approach drive. Martin Andrews keeping busy to stay warm.


 
3. The tarmaced driveway will this year create a better first impression for the visitors.



4. Another job to keep warm with was to spread a couple of bags of ballast around by the turnout re-ballasted last week after the flood washouts. John Villers ssems to be keeping Sam the dog amused.



5. Jim Price (left) joined the Thursday (outdoor) group today and helped with the ballast work.


 
6. Dick Gunn on the down home signal, was able to get a few coats of white paint on the refurbished signal post.

7. Hunslet Diesel D6652 progresses further in the shed with the lower coupling brackets fitted and air brake hoses.


 
8. D6652 works number lettering in TOPS style on the cab's side.

10. The only works train movement today was a trip to Killington Lane with HEDDON HALL and the Surrey Group refurbished bogie flat No.28322.


 
11. Jim Price removes the KILLINGTON LANE sign from its posts to take it back to Woody Bay in order to fit a new wooden frame.
