Work in Progress: 23 October

The L&BR Trust's second station site and trackbed at Chelfham continues to be maintained by local volunteers. With much of the stored equipment in recent years having been gradually transferred or sold off , there is now an  opportunity to tidy up the trackbed for long term future use.  A very small group of volunteers have been busy this autumn cutting down and burning overgrown branches and rhododendron trees and clearing the trackbed route accordingly.

 1. The station site at Chelfham as viewed from the Barnstaple (viaduct) end.

 2. Looking along the trackbed north towards Bratton Fleming with piles of cut down rhododendron bushes awaiting their bonfire.

 3. Dead, dry branches and twigs easily went up in the trackbed bonfire.

 4. Len Watson helps to feed the bonfire

 5. Nigel Thompson begins to rake the tree cuttings to go into the bonfire.

 6. A good flame soon clears away the dead wood ready to burn the rhododendron cuttings.
