Visit to Woody Bay Station by Bratton Fleming Primary School, Wednesday 6th April.
Over 100 pupils from Bratton Fleming Primary School, of ages ranging from 5 to 11, plus associated teaching staff, visited Woody Bay on Wednesday morning. Fortunately the weather was vastly improved upon the previous day, and everyone enjoyed the glorious spring sunshine.
The girls and boys were split into two groups, the younger party taking the train ride to Killington Lane whilst the older pupils were treated to a short talk about the history of the Lynton & Barnstaple Railway. Upon return of the train, the groups swapped over, and were later able to look around the station area.
It was pleasing to note that well over half of the children had previously visited the railway with family and friends, and there was also considerable enthusiasm for the possibility of the railway one day returning to Bratton Fleming. It should also be mentioned that the children were very well behaved throughout their visit, and asked some very intelligent (and challenging!) questions about railways in general and the L&B in particular at the end of the talk.
