General Manager, Martyn Budd was extremely pleased with the outcome of today's work at Woody Bay, along the lineside and at Killington Lane. Many small jobs were successfully completed by the Thursday Group volunteers. The weather was sunny and cold but the Exmoor scenery was as inspiring as ever.
A works train with Hunslet Diesel HEDDON HALL, the tool vans, the digger on the well wagon, and volunteers travelling in the brake van was formed up to travel to Killington Lane.
1. A distant view at Killington Lane as the jobs begin.
2. John and Jim work on adjusting the gate at the occupation crossing.
3. The gate is adjusted so that the bolt will line up with the concrete gate post.
4. The digger unloads surplus rail from off the SR bogie flat No.28321. Many long rails recovered from the rail renewals here recently were tidied up and sorted into various stacks pending scrap, resale or reuse.
5. Diesel HEDDON HALL and wagons stabled out of the way on the loop line.
6. John Villers barrs across some of the surplus rails stored at Killington Lane.
7. Dave Bloomfield and Dave Tooke work on an uneven rail joint using shims and stepped fishplates to improve the ride.
8. HEDDON HALL with the brake van back at Woody Bay for the lunch break.
9. The digger with the new augur attached easily drills a hole for a new sign post by the track at Killington Lane.
10. Everyone watches whilst the hard graft work is now done by the digger with augur attached.
11. The sign post being installed here at the end of platform is to warn visitors not to wander onto the track.
12. At Woody Bay the pedestrian gate entrance by the A39 received a side extension to the post to allow the gate to be refitted. Graham Bendell adjusts the clamp into place.
13. Jim Price refits the gate and removes the rotted wood sections to replace with new.
