Two separate tasks today for the Thursday group. In the morning we drove down to Chelfham. The job here was to move sections of the original Howard Van under cover and to collect a surplus steel framework for transportation to Killington Lane for future despatch.
1. At Chelfham moving from the trailer to the van body.
2. The steel frame will be moved across to the Land Rover and Trailer.
3. The steel frame at Killington Lane being moved to store prior to despatch.
After lunch, where much discussion focussed on topics raised at last weekends forum, the gang began another project. Exmoor National Park has granted planning permission for the miniature railway (7.25" gauge) recently but subject to several conditions. One of which required an upgrade of the boundary fence between the A39 and the miniature railway. The wooden posts (several of which were rotten) need to be replaced with concrete fence posts and will be strained with wire either side of the side entrance gate.
4. The old wooden posts are removed from the boundary line by the A39 road.
5. This area from the side gate to the woods needs to be refenced with the concrete posts and wire to satisfy the planning condition.
6. Digging and enlarging a hole for the first concrete post.
7. The concrete fence post is installed and lined up straight and level.
It was October Half Term week and AXE was in charge of the passenger train today. Several visitors and many local people were about enjoying the last trains of the 2010 season (Santa Specials begin on December 11th).
8. The train crew today included Phil Clarke from Sidmouth and new volunteer Julian Sinclair from Barbrook, Lynton.
9. All the train crew; Roger Hateley (Guard) Eddie Mills (Driver) and Stuart Wells (CME) enjoy a tea break prior to the last train of the day.
