During the morning the permanent way gang today completed the job of upgrading a stretch of track at Killington Lane with new baseplates replacing the temporary ex MOD spiked plates installed last year.

After finishing this project the whole one mile line running line from Woody Bay to Killington Lane is now 50lb. weight rail on pandrol clipped baseplates screwed into sleepers throughout.

After lunch the team relocated to the car park to begin the regauging of an ex MOD brake van. Purchased from the Royal Navy Armaments Museum near Gosport in 2008, and kept in store locally at Kentisbury, this wooden bodied brake van is the latest works train wagon restoration project. The heavy 4 wheel brake van, orginally from the ordnance depot at Dean Hill near Salisbury, will be regauged from 2'6", then taken into the stock shed in order to carry out bodywork repairs and refurbishment.

In the shed over the pit the brake rigging will also be regauged and adjusted to fit the wheelsets. Temporary wheelsets (borrowed from a box van) are being fitted to the brake van to enable its move to the shed.
