The work and exploits of the "Thursday Gang" have been regularly presented here in recent months, but much other work is also carried out - both at Woody Bay and further afield.
The very active Wednesday group of volunteers are also working on a variety of projects to maintain and enhance the railway's presence at Woody Bay.
Today, the 'Wednesday Gang' were kept busy with maintenance of the resident locomotives HEDDON HALL and AXE, including some servicing and cleaning. Other work underway this week has been the removal of turf and topsoil from the former lower lawn (tea room gardens) and the levelling of this site. Crushed stone has now been spread out and rolled throughout. Meanwhile the upper lawn, after receiving this turf and topsoil, has also been levelled smooth and rolled. New grass seed has been sown. These areas will continue to form the outside tea rooms with an occasional marquee covering the lower tea gardens during the main season.
The 'Wednesday Gang' enjoyed their relaxing lunch and tea breaks supplemented with some delicious home-made chocolate cake provided by Wendy Rogers. The gang would welcome any new faces particularly to those members unable to attend on Thursdays or over the weekends. Just turn up any time from 10am.
There are also three other days during the week that would welcome a gang of their own - if that could be YOU, then please, do get in touch!
