Work in Progress: 24th October

Roadworks TriangleWe are well into Autumn but there's still plenty to do!

This week's report once again comes from Roger Bye.

As always there is plenty to do, here are some photos and words about work this week at Woody Bay.

1. Driver Dave and Fireman Tom wait, in typical North Devon drizzle, for the departure of the first train of the day.

2. & 3. Dave and Graham continued their unending work providing a supply of cut wood for "lighting up" our locomotives. Sadly, their magnificent stock of wood won't last very long!

4. Last week's success with the sewage systems seem to have qualified Steve, Nick and Dave to start work on the old gents toilet! Stripping off the old plaster was not for the faint-hearted!

5. & 6. There was plenty of action in the paint shop with Dave, Geoff, Phil and Jim all busy painting, filling and fettling.

7. Down (up?) at Killington Lane - in the area recently cleared of vegetation - work started on extending the siding to increase rolling-stock storage space.

8. & 9. First Keith, Don, Jonathan, Malcolm and Martyn erected new fencing from the road to the inner fence line.

10. Then, with the help of Manager Martyn and the mini-digger, the buffer stop and attached short track panel (seen in its original location in photo 7), was moved to its new position.

11. Back at Woody Bay, Tim pauses in his work to wave at passengers on the departing train hauled by ISAAC...

12. ISAAC arrives back and runs into the down platform in order to facilitate the running of works trains today.

13. A Full-House. Afternoon tea brought to a close a day of drizzle, showers, work and camaraderie.

Other jobs were underway today including Dave mitigating the effects of the wet weather on some of the station lighting; Pete machined components in the workshop; Nigel was reorganising the shop stock room while Roger and Tim sorted out stored equipment.
