A smaller group enjoyed the annual trip to Looe today.
From Barnstaple to Exeter first, for a Class 802 IET all the way to Liskeard. The 10 car train was not busy and we easily found a table with window seats.
1. Alighting at Liskeard with the 802s coupled together.
2. Perhaps this the only freight train running into the South West today. This Colas Class 70 with the Wednesdays only Aberfaw-Moorswater cement train had just arrived at Liskeard and was about to run onto the link line to access the Looe branch as far as Coombe Junction.
3. We crossed over to the unique platform - at right angles to the main line - to await the Looe branch train.
4. Pints of Doombar for all at Ye Olde Salutation Inn at East Looe.
5. & 6. After lunch time for a beach and harbour stroll enjoying the superb weather today.
7. As a special tribute to L&B stalwart Rick Sayers (who sadly passed away last week....See report), regular volunteers Anne Belsey and Dave Peach were wearing matching L and B R fleeces just like Rick and Barbara Sayers did every time they visited the railway.
Trains back to Liskeard and Exeter ran on time and then there was time for a beer or two at the latest Beer Festival at the Imperial Wetherspoons .....
8. & 9; .........with all the barrels and casks set up in the picturesque Orangery Room.
