Work in Progress: 4th June

Roadworks TriangleBlue skies - nothing but blue skies!

With Nigel still away, Roger Bye has put together this week's report.

There was plenty of sunshine but a bit of a shortage of Thursday Gang members at Woody Bay this week. The faithful few tackled three main tasks today.

Trevor and Dick were constructing a platform to facilitate maintenance of the new elevated shunting signal at the Barnstaple end of the station limits.

2. ... whilst Trevor and Dick build the platform - against a glorious North Devon backdrop...

3. ... and finish off the platform with a coat of paint.

4. Meanwhile, two of the electrical Daves worked in the mess room preparing for the installation of a shower cubicle for volunteers. Unfortunately, your cameraman missed the excitement of drilling a 100mm hole through the 300mm wall for the shower extractor!

5. The vigorous growth of vegetation was threatening to overwhelm the recently refurbished tables in the Rowley Cross picnic area. There was also still one table to be renovated.

6. The trackbed walk after being strimmed and mowed by Graham. Meanwhile, Richard, Roger and Dave attended to the remaining table.

7. Graham and Dave relax after converting the jungle back into a picnic area.

8. Back at Woody Bay - Nigel is oblivious to AXE as he continues his everlasting work repainting the station railings.

9. & 10. AXE was the engine in steam and carried many passengers during the day.
