Another retaining wall restoration day at Woody Bay
Despite the awful weather, work continues at Woody Bay to repair the supporting wall below the headshunt.
There is some urgency to complete the work as we are due to operate trains during the February half-term week, now only ten days away.
Ready-mix concrete was delivered to the car park today, then transferred into a small tipper truck, to be carried on the well wagon down to the main line, so that the concrete could be tipped directly into the new wall foundations alongside the headshunt.
This operation was repeated several times during the day, in very wet and windy conditions. The staff involved, a combination of paid staff, volunteers and contractors, are to be congratulated on their determination to get the job done.
1. Excavating the foundation trench.
2. Loading ready-mix from the transhipment siding, ...
3. ... Transporting it by rail a short distance, ...
4. ... and pouring it to form the wall foundations.
